Movie news: Chris Pratt Join Channing Tatum in Ghostbusters Reboot?

Earlier this afternoon, the movie world got a bit of a shock when it was revealed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo are going to make their own Ghostbusters film that is looking to have Channing Tatum star. As it turns out, however, the 22 Jump Street actor may not be the only A-lister to become involved with the project, as a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that the movie is being built as a chance to partner Tatum with Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt.
This story comes to us from Badass Digest, which has published a story trying to clarify some of the details in the initial Ghostbusters report with information given to them by confidential sources at Sony. To start, the sources say that the idea of the movie being "all-male" is a misconception, but that the movie will feature two of Hollywood's biggest actors at its center. Apparently, a big part of this is simply that Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt are friends and are looking for a project that they can do together. If the sources are accurate, it seems that Sony is more than happy to provide them with one.

At this point, there aren't really any firm details in regard to what we can expect from the Tatum-Pratt Ghostbusters movie plot-wise, but the new report stresses that the project is not in competition with the reboot being directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Instead, the two projects are being developed simultaneously as a means to complement each other. The story adds that the idea behind this is to make the world feel bigger and to potentially allow for more "tonal variety." Given the pieces involved it's hard to predict exactly what this means. Feig has teased his Ghostbusters movie as being both scary and funny - so that means that Joe and Anthony Russo could be making a movie that is potentially more action-packed, funnier or maybe even scarier.

Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce is currently writing the script for this second Ghostbusters movie, though he has plenty of time to work on his draft. Because the Russo brothers are going to be a tad bit busy making Captain America: Civil War this summer and over the course of the rest of the year, this project isn't scheduled to go into production until next year, and won't be released until 2017. This could mean that it will be a while before we hearing anything more official about the film, but, as always, we can depend on the rumor mill and speculation to keep us talking about it a lot in the months to come.
